Take Me To Taos

Desert Secrets + Found Family

  • Reading Order: Book One

A house in the desert, an old journal, and the secrets they keep.

Cali Clarke is a successful product designer in San Francisco—or at least, she was until losing her mother. Since then, nothing feels quite right. But when the efforts to settle her mother’s estate reveal a secret house in New Mexico, more questions arise. Her only hope for answers is in that house. She has to go.

The high desert is a complete change of pace for Cali, forcing her to down-shift from incessant emails to watching literal paint dry. The only reprieve comes from befriending a vivacious coffee shop owner, and distracting herself with Alex Rodriguez, the handsome, and hopefully single, artist serving drinks at the local bar.

But when Cali unearths her mother’s journal from thirty years prior, she realizes the woman isn’t who she thought. Each moment Cali feels at home in New Mexico is quickly undone by her own family secrets. Answers about the past are so close and she must decide if the glimpses into her mother’s life are worth the pain they stir up in her own.

With friendship, love, and a career on the line, can Cali make peace with her past or will her hunt for the truth destroy her future?

  • Reading Order: Book 1.5

How do you move forward when everything you want is in the past?

Alex Rodriguez is the kind of guy who lets life happen to him. Because why not? Doing so landed him a job he likes and the chance to work on his art as he pleases. It also brought him Cali Clarke, the gorgeous out-of-towner searching for answers in Taos. She alone was proof wonderful things happen when you drift in the tide.

But when Cali unexpectedly leaves, without so much as a goodbye, Alex finds himself on shaky ground. How can his sepia-toned life in the desert be enough after his technicolor summer with her?

Along with the help of his family, Alex slowly puts the pieces of himself back together. He tries new things, pushes the edge of his comfort zone, and finds solace in his art. With every creation, Alex lets go of his pain and in turn, lets go of her.

With his sense of self hanging in the balance, can Alex heal from the gaping hole Cali left behind? Or will Cali find her way back too late, after he’s forgotten her entirely?

  • Reading Order: Book 2

What’s the cure for heartbreak? Apparently, a little island intrigue.

Lena Rodriguez has her whole life under control. She’s running her coffee shop Café Mesa, keeping her boundary-pushing family in order, and leveling up her relationship with a proposal she’s sure is coming. Life is just as she planned. But when her pre-vacation dinner turns into an unexpected—and very public—breakup, Lena is forced to make a choice: suffer heartbreak at home or take the romantic trip she planned . . . by herself.

Bermuda is objectively paradise, with pink sand beaches, crystal clear caves and pastel-colored houses. It’s also the home of Ash Hayward, a local marine archaeologist, who pushes Lena’s buttons from the moment they meet. Try as she might, Lena’s efforts to relax and “enjoy herself” on vacation prove impossible.

So hen Lena learns her haunting island dreams overlap with a secret in Ash’s family, it feels like a sign. She is determined to solve the century-old mystery buried in the ocean for both of them. This trip will mean something, if she can just get Ash to listen to her. But Ash—and the island—aren’t taking Lena’s directions so easily, and she is forced to face herself and her past.

Will the ocean give Lena the healing she needs or will the riptide pull her under?

  • Reading Order: Book 2.5

Some people linger like salt on the skin.

Ash Hayward has seen his fair share of tourists fall for Bermuda. With pink beaches, turquoise waters, and rum swizzles, it’s expected. As far as he’s concerned, tourists are fun, fleeting, and forgotten by next week. At least that was the case until Lena Rodriguez showed up.

It’s been a year since Lena was in Bermuda, but it hasn’t felt that way to Ash. Their whirlwind weeks together were some of his best, and in the months after she still crawled under his skin. The lingering memory of her made his picture perfect life not so perfect anymore.

And now it was time for Ash to do something about it. He heads for New Mexico’s high desert to collect on a promise Lena made last summer: a drink of Bermudian rum and a meal. He gets one night, one chance, to see if what they had is still there. The only problem? Lena’s not the same woman from last summer, and without the island to hide behind, Ash will have to open up more than ever before.

With his future on the line, will Ash be able to show Lena how he’s changed? Can he explain the impact she had? Or will he find Lena’s moved on, and what they shared was nothing but a fleeting dream?
